A joint venture of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation & Indian Railways has been operating since January 1982. The concept of Palace-on-Wheels was derived from the royal background of the coaches that belonged to the Rulers of the Erstwhile Princely states and it was used initially for the journey of the Palace-on-Wheels. After its continuous running for 9 years from its inception it was observed that the Royal oaches had become technically unfit for the smooth rail journey and hence it was decided to faricate a new air-conditioned meter gauge Palace-on-Wheels on the same pattern of the old train.   more...
