Rail |
The Indian Railway with their modern and organized network connects Delhi to major and minor destination in India. There are three important railway stations in Delhi to all major and minor destinations in India, namely New Delhi Rly. Station, Old Delhi Rly. Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Rly. Station. Trains run from all the parts of the country to Delhi. For nearby places like Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gwalior, Bhopal, Lucknow and Kanpur, the Shatabdi Express is recommended.

Road |
Delhi is well connected by road to all major destinations in North India. The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is located at Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale-Khan and Anand Vihar. Delhi Transport Corporation and Road Transport Corporations of the neighboring States provide frequent bus services through Air Conditioned, Deluxe and Ordinary Coaches. Buses from all the major places in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are available for getting to Delhi. During summer months, air-conditioned coaches are recommended.

The Union Territory of Delhi is a federal district similar to Washington DC. The capital of India and its' third-largest city, Delhi blends an historic past and a vibrant present. In addition to being the centre of government, Delhi is a major travel gateway. It is the second most widely used entry point into the country, the hub of the north Indian travel network, and a stop on the overland route across Asia.
Present day Delhi is built around the ruins of seven ancient cities. Legend has it that Delhi, then called Indraprastha, was originally founded around 1200 B.C. by the Pandavas, the august heroes of the epic Mahabharata. Old Delhi was the capital of Muslim India between the 17th and 19th centuries and here you will find many mosques, monuments and forts relating to India's Muslim history. The Imperial city planned for the British by Lutyens is set in parks and shaded avenues. It is a spacious, open city and contains many embassies and government buildings.

Lotus temple : is built in the shape of a lotus flower and is the last of seven Major Bahai's temples built around the world. The structure is made up of pure white marble The architect Furiburz Sabha chose the lotus as the symbol common to Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam. Adherents of any faith are free to visit the temple and pray or meditate. Around the blooming petals there are nine pools of water, which light up, in natural light. It looks spectacular at dusk.
Rajghat : pay tribute to the 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi.
Red Fort: The Red Fort, popularly known as Lal Qila, was built by the famous Mughal emperor Shah Jehan. Situated on the banks of Yamuna River, this marvelous red sandstone Fort represents one of the finest masterpieces of the Indo-Islamic Architecture. In the evening the Delhi Tourism Department organizes an exciting light and sound show, which unfolds the history of Delhi in context of the Red Fort.
Jama Masjid: Another architectural masterpiece creation of the Mughal emperor Shah Jehan, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India. Built in red sandstone in 1650 AD, the mosque is located just opposite to the Red Fort. You can have a bird's eye view of Delhi from the top of 40 m high minarets of the mosque.
Qutab Minar: Built by Qutab-ud-din Aibak towards the close of 12th century, Qutub Minar is an amazing 72.5 m tall tower. It's complex also houses India's first mosque, the Quwatul Islam and an ancient iron pillar belonging to the 5th century AD. The iron pillar is unique in its character, as it has never been rusted since it was built.
Humayun's Tomb: Included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Humayun's Tomb was built by Humayun's wife in the middle of the 16th century. The tomb represents one of the finest examples of the Indo-Islamic architecture in India.
Parliament House: The center of political activity of India, the largest democracy in the world, the Parliament House is the sitting house of the elected members of India. Located in the heart of the city, on the left of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, this beautiful circular structure is one of the finest examples of the British architectural richness.
Rashtrapati Bhavan: The Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President of India. This marvelous cream and red sandstone building is another architectural masterpiece of this period. The beautiful Mughal Gardens is situated in the premises of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
India Gate: India Gate is a 42 m high stone arch structure built in memory of the 85,000 Indian Army Soldiers who died in the campaigns of World War I. Surrounded by the lush green landscaped grass lawns and small artificial lakes, India Gate is full of life during the evening. Just in front of the gate is the eternal flame (Amar Jawan Jyoti), which is always lighted.
Jantar Mantar: Few minutes walk from Connaught Place is a strange collection of solomon coloured structures. These were built by Maharaja Jai Singh and is actually an observatory.
Old Fort : It is believed that the Pandavas had built their capital, Indraprastha at the place where the old fort stands today.
Birla temple:this famous temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu & goddess Lakshmi and was built in 1938 by a leading Industrialist.
Other attractions : Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi, Crafts Museum, Gandhi Darshan & Gandhi National Museum, Dara Shikoh Library, National Science Centre, Dolls Museum, Safdarjung Tomb, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, ISKCON Temple, National Rail Museum, National Museum.
